SOS Launches New Hospital Education Program Across Queensland

SOS Launches New Hospital Education Program Across Queensland

Save Our Supplies (SOS) is proud to announce the rollout of a new hospital education program across its network of partner hospitals in Queensland. The initiative is designed to strengthen collaboration, increase the impact of donated medical supplies, and support better health outcomes for communities across the Pacific. When health care workers have all the resources they need, they can provide dignified, quality care for their patients, regardless of where they live.

The education program provides hospital staff with clear, practical guidance on what can and cannot be donated through SOS collection bins, ensuring that every contribution is safe, appropriate, and ready for immediate use in low-resource settings. Alongside this, the initiative highlights the real-world impact of donations, connecting hospital teams with stories and outcomes from our recipient partners

Pictured here are Allison, Heidi and Leanne of Mater Redlands Private Hospital, long-time partners in SOS product collections. Through this partnership, staff have gained a meaningful and practical way to contribute to sustainability efforts within their workplace—diverting usable medical supplies from landfill while directly supporting fellow nurses in lower-resource or geographically isolated settings across the Pacific. The initiative has strengthened staff engagement, fostering a shared sense of purpose, and is connecting individuals with the tangible social and environmental impact of even small, everyday actions.

This program is also a platform for advocacy—raising awareness within hospitals about the vital role they play in reducing medical waste while directly contributing to improved healthcare access in underserved communities.

“Our partnerships with Queensland hospitals are at the heart of everything we do,” said Claire Lane, Founder of SOS and lead on the hospital education program. “We deeply value the commitment and generosity shown by hospital staff, who take the time to divert usable supplies from landfill, for SOS to arrange delivery into the hands of fellow clinicians across the Pacific region. This program is about strengthening these partnerships and ensuring everyone feels confident and connected to the impact they’re making.”

In the first two months of 2026 the SOS team recovered, sorted, and prepared for shipment an incredible 11 tonnes of unused, viable medical consumables. We extend sincere and heartfelt thanks to our valued hospital partners across Australia, who work with us to ensure that essential medical goods like dressings, gloves, surgical tools, and medical furniture, can be used for their intended purposes, enabling dignity of care for the thousands of patients of our recipient partner hospitals across the Pacific.

SOS is inviting additional hospitals and healthcare facilities to join the program and be part of this growing network of impact. By hosting a collection bin and participating in the education program, hospitals can play a direct role in improving global health equity and environmental sustainability.

Hospitals and healthcare providers interested in supporting SOS by installing a collection bin or learning more about the education program are encouraged to get in touch. Visit our website to learn more: https://saveoursupplies.org.au/pages/join

Together, we can turn surplus into practical support, and compassion into action.
